EURO 2012 qualifiers September 6th results

Pretty normal results in yesterday’s matches. I think Slovakia-Armenia 0-4 is worth mentioning as a surprise. France stumbled by Romania (or maybe the awful pitch on the new National Arena) and the group’s winner will probably be determined in the direct game versus Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 11.

Things are still pretty complicated in groups B and H, with no clear winner and runner-up yet.

Bucharest National Arena

Inaugural match for Europa League final stadium

Today’s match Romania vs. France will be the first one played on the new National Arena, the Bucharest stadium which will host Europa League’s 2012 final on May 9.

The stadium was supposed to be inaugurated on August 10 with a friendly match of Romania against Messi’s Argentina, but the match was cancelled due to Argentina’s coach being fired.

The stadium can host 55600 people and has a retractable roof that can open in 15 minutes.

Europa League 2nd leg results

Sevilla, Rangers and Sparta Praha are OUT! But the biggest surprise I think is Rome, which is out too. Who bet on that happening could be a rich man.

Roman rivals Lazio succeeded an 9-1 aggregate after a 3-1 away win. Schalke recovered afer losing 0-2 in the first leg and crushed HJK 6-1. Trabzonspor got a ‘promotion’ to UCL and their match was cancelled, with Athletic going to the group stage.

UEFA Super Cup: Is Porto going to make it against Barcelona?

Today in Monaco Porto will try to stop Barcelona’s domination in recent European football inthis year’s UEFA Super Cup. Considered by many (including me) the best team in the world at the moment, Barcelona got even stronger after the arrivals of Fabregas from Arsenal and Sanchez from Udinese. But Barca won’t be able to use Puyol and Pique (injured).
Barcelona is trying to win the Super Cup for the fifth time, in an attempt to equal AC Milan and they’ve got Messi to do it – watch some magic right here:

On the other hand, Porto has lost their coach, Andre Villa-Boas, who won Europa League this spring, and Falcao, the 17-time scorer in last year’s Europa League. Watch the video of all of Falcao’s last season goals:

Update: UEFA president Michel Platini has presented Falcao a special award for his fabulous performance in Europa League.

Who do you think will win?
